When you really don’t want to do the right thing

Went to Santa Fe this morning to apply for the driveway along the easement out to the property.  This was my second attempt and once again I was told I didn’t have this and that and might need one of those.  In the end it appears that I had the minimum paperwork needed for the application and in 7-10 business days I am supposed to find out.

I realize that most people out there in the boonies don’t bother with all this paperwork nonsense and the risk that someone in authority will say “no” to the project.  But I also know that there is no surer way of screwing up a project like this than not getting permits.  And it is the legal thing and right thing to do even if it would be easier to just do the whole thing myself.

The easement is clearly there and I think I should have no problem with getting approval aside from maybe not having every possible scrap of paperwork in.  I probably should have hired my driveway guy to do all the paperwork for me, but I worried that he would not be able to get to it very quickly and he has yet to even see the property – something I plan to remedy shortly.  Maybe I am too hasty and will shoot myself in the foot, but I feel the need to do something.

I have more about today, but that might have to wait for tomorrow.
