The Big Bad Wolf was wrong
Adventures in sustainable building

Is this a setback or a giant leap forward?

I have been working with a local green builder on the project.  Readers of this blog will recognize the history of my initial attempt to do this mostly myself, and my eventual realization that I would need professional help (not of the psychiatric sort! Shame on you for thinking that!).

However . . .

My project manager was fired by the firm’s boss last Friday.  They each have their own account of what transpired.  Depending on whose story it true, this is either a serious setback or an opening to get some things done in the near term.  Either it is the case that there is a new fellow (whom I have yet to meet) on the job, or there really isn’t and the replacement is a part-timer biding his time until another job starts (possibly before mine is finished).

And my former manager was either a wasteful, incompetent who was the root of the delays (and was going to cost me a pile in excess costs), or the big boss is a senile micro-manager who does not fully embrace MY vision for the house and is a greedy, scheming, crook.

Sounds like a bad divorce does it not?  I don’t fully believe anyone and am waiting until I meet the new dude and see what progress can be made now now now.  But perhaps I am Vladimir (or am I Estragon?) waiting for Godot.

Some good news: the drive should be done.  A neighbor lady came in to tell me that trucks and trucks were taking things through my gate.  That would be the millings for use as a topping.  I noticed that the drive had been re-graded with a higher crown yesterday when I went out to collect rocks.    I failed to get out this morning but tomorrow is another day.

Nice blog-- sorry to hear about the project manager. It must be hard to find competent eco-friendly builders. At least ones that are honest and service-oriented. Pioneers always pay a price for the rest of us-- it will be much easier to build this kind of house in twenty years.

By the way I am sorry if Mike Mouron was strange visitor to your shop. I do envy that he has seen your new shop. Hope to make it out there in early 2008.

      Best John & Janet
