A hearty welcome to my new readers!

Welcome you FBI Agents, Homeland Security Snoops, and any and all clandestine services charged with protecting America from The Enemy. Now that you are onto me I hope you won’t waste precious resources wondering how a blog about sustainable building is connected with the Global War on Terror (or whatever it is you call it these days). It is not, and neither am I. Though I admit that I supported Ron Paul as the best hope we have for long-term security. I also am quite fond of our Constitution and the vision of the Founding Fathers. If you like, I can provide you a reading list.
Why am I so sure you’ve suddenly appeared? It’s because of my wife’s cousin’s family vacation to the desert Southwest. You see, the Husband, Father, workaholic Physician of the family – a man who has lived in Germany for decades and raised a couple of teenagers with his German wife – was detained by some of your foot soldiers for hours and grilled. To the point that the kids were crying in terror at your tactics.
All because he was born in Iran.
Of course, they also missed their connection and have lost a day of vacation, changing all of our plans.
And I am certain that we’ve gone on some list because of their visit. I’m not all that concerned since your lists now number in the millions – to the point that it no longer is useable. [“Let’s see here, we have seventeen Hamza Abbas on the list. Which one is this guy?” (Hint: It’s probably not him, and don’t you think bad guys travel under assumed names?).] But I try to be very careful to keep squeaky clean and avoid any and all contact with officialdom.
I was tempted to warn them about coming at this particular time, even though when they last came in 2003 (much closer to 9-11, btw) they didn’t have any problems. Of course the Administration was not rattling the sabers at Iran quite as vigorously back then. But who knows, maybe they just got unlucky on this trip and luckier on the last one.
So welcome. And may peace be upon you.
